Shadow Self
Cold cast iron
210cm (216.5cm on base) x 41cm x 7cm
Shadow Self marks the beginning of my exploration into Carl Jung’s theory of the “shadow self.” Jung stated, “Everyone carries a shadow, and the less it is embodied in the individual’s conscious life, the blacker and denser it is.” This piece is a literal shadow, permanently cast as a silhouette of my own body. Originally sculpted in plaster, it was hand-carved, sanded, and polished before being moulded and cast in Cold Cast Iron. Now exhibited at The Sculpture Park in Farnham, it stands as a reflection on self-awareness, personal growth, and the confrontation of the unconscious.
