Jasmine Bradbury
British Sculptor and Artist, based in London
Jasmine Bradbury is a British sculptor and artist from Norfolk and currently based in London. Her work delves into the unconscious mind, exploring how internalised experiences shape personal expression. Through her sculptures, she reflects interpretations and responses to the internal self, often manifesting as contradictions in form and material. The human figure and natural objects are recurring motifs, which she abstracts and sculpts in clay or plaster before casting in various materials, including lead, bronze, aluminium, resin, plaster, and jesmonite. Recently, Bradbury has expanded her practice into stone carving, adding another dimension to her exploration of internal states.
Bradbury’s current body of work is deeply influenced by Carl Jung’s Collective Unconscious Theory, particularly his concept of the ‘Shadow Self.’ The series investigates the integration of light and dark aspects of the self, capturing the tension and balance between these opposing forces. As Jung wrote, “the meeting with oneself is, at first, the meeting with one’s own shadow.” Bradbury’s sculptures aim to give form to these moments of emotional complexity, offering tangible representations of fleeting inner states that often challenge the inherent qualities of the materials defying perceptions of strength, fragility, and what lies beneath the surface.
Since earning a first-class honours degree in Fine Art from Norwich University of the Arts in 2015, Bradbury has worked in foundries across London, Norfolk, and Suffolk, developing expertise in bronze casting and mould-making. For the past three years, she has run her own mould-making and casting business, allowing her to collaborate with established sculptors while continuing to evolve her personal artistic practice. Bradbury is the 2024 recipient of the Cockpit Arts Society Award, which grants her a year of subsidised studio space and the opportunity to focus on developing her body of work with the support of the Cockpit Studio community. Please visit Cockpit Studios Maker Profile.
