Shadow

Carrara Marble

Edition of 1/1

47cm x 8cm x 8cm

Hand-carved in Carrara, Italy, Shadow (2023) was created under the mentorship of Boutro, a master stone carver at Arco Artes. Inspired by Carl Jung’s concept of the shadow self - embracing both light and dark - the sculpture simplifies the female form, drawn from a 9ft plaster cast of my own shadow. Selecting the marble was a pivotal moment; a perfect straight edge in the stone shaped the final design, splitting the form in two. The polished marble represents light, while its cast shadow embodies darkness, reinforcing the duality within us. This piece is both a personal and philosophical exploration of self-acceptance. This sculpture has been exhibited in 2024 at Emerge (Undercroft Gallery) in Norwich.
